Short shift for 2003 A6
launches. Mine is an 03 too as you can see by my sig.
First, is that an Audi posted as your sig- what kind?
Where do you live, earlier you posted you were visiting Asia?
Just a curious mind???
As for keeping your A6 running well, I would do a few things:
Warm up and cool down of the oil and turbos is critical. A few miles of gentle throttle inputs before romping on the gas will add to the life of both the engine and turbos. When you are ready to stop, either drive gently a mile or two before your destination, or idle the car for a minute or so before shutting it off. That prevents coking of oil.
Change oil every 4 to 7K, with a good quality synthetic. We've covered oil extensively in Stoney's FAQ. Follow the maintanence schedule and also take time to be observant about new smells, sounds, and make under car inspections now and then. Fix things as soon as you notice them, instead of waiting until something breaks - usually less expensive ;-)
In fact, Stoney's FAQ is an excellent way to learn a lot.

Here's what I do with my Alfa Milano Verde - also known as 75 3.0 America

Anyhow, regardless, I would recommend the shifter, and am sure that with more driving I'll get 100% used to it. The DTS also made a pretty decent difference - feels like it helps put the power down more solidly, but it's hard to quantify.
Installation of both items is super easy. There's a lot of good posts, but if you're lazy you could check out the link below from my install (it's froma website which I'm trying to put together - hopefully I'll have my DTS install documented and up in a few days).
Anyhow, good luck! And BTW, also in a '03 2.7T 6-speed....

http://audifahrer.com/tanogainstall/index.htm</a
