Default bmw versus audi service in same dealer..

hi guys. Thank you very much for the responses to my previous question. how about this one;
I drive 2001 a6, and my wife drives bmw 3.25i.We bought the cars from same dealer.( poul miller, nj sells both brands) I paid $136 for basic oil change ( which I still thing its a rip off) my wife paid $270 for bmw for the same service. I had a big argument at the service department at bmw poul miller,they did nothing but giving me the same bully list of the things they did on the car like they were not done on my audi. I guess they think bmw owners are bunch of rich idiots who would not care where the money goes...

any thoughts???

Default my local stealer charge me $40 oil change , oil filter that's all after lying to me ...

i call AoA and report them for lying to the customers ( they don't do what they said) and i have to show them after oil change hey look brake fluid is under min. mark , power steering is half inch over max. level , they don't check air filter. Why they said we do it all but the truth is they don't really care about it.

Default Yeah, doing it yourself is worth it if you have the time. I used to spend

$2500 to $3000 a year to maintain my Alfa, when I didn't have the tools, garage, or time. That was for a specialist who was utterly dependable. You might get away with a bit less with the Audi, but a good (even independent) tech is never cheap.

Default they told me they do it , so what can i say . So after they give me keys i told SM , walk with me

check if all you said is done. Well just oil and oil filter was new. How i said in first post brake fluid .... they take care of it. I even told AoA its not about me i can check all fluids and air filter by myself but some people believe stealer and they never open hood on the car. Thats happend to my car and previous owner nobody change air filter for 4 years so its nasty.

Default And I thought I was getting ripped off when dealer charged me $40 in '98 for oil/filter change!...

I do my own maintenance on three vehicles unless: 1. It is covered by warranty/recall, or 2. Requires special equipment that I don't have. I recently took my wife's '00 VW Passat 1.8L T in to local VW dealership for water pump replacement under warranty and wouldn't believe what they came back with that "needed attention":

* "Oil very dirty" (oil/filter only had 2K miles since last changed)

* "Rear brake pads running metal-to-metal" (min thickness measured: 11 mm; spec min 7 mm, not running metal-to-metal)

* "Tires need replacing, rotate rears to front ASAP" (all tires (original OEM) are about 5/32" tread depth, due for new set new soon, but not at the 3/32" min.)

* "Cooling hoses leaking, one on oil cooler, one on water pump" (Knew about hose on oil cooler; water pump was not leaking, just had residue from leaking water pump; agreed to have them replaced since they had the coolant system open)

Needless to say, if I didn't have has much experience with autos and repairs that I have acquired over the years, I could have been convinced to spend over $1,000 that was unnecessary. Nearly all dealers make the bulk of their profit from the service department, so be wairy of ANYTHING that they say "needs attention".
