Default don't flame me timing belt question

Ok guys, I have a 2.7 tip at 71k. I just bought this car with 60k on it. Is there any way i can tell if the timing belt has been changed before? And is there any symtoms of timing belt going out? Should I change my belt soon?

Default If you can't get proof it was done somewhere between 50 and 60K, do it anyway.

Yes, it will cost you some $$$, but it's a lot cheaper than rebuilding or buying new heads and pistons (interference engine design).

Do water pump and belt tensioner at the same time. Labour shouldn't be much more. It will save you the cost of having to take it all apart again if the car should need either of those items not that long after doing the belt.

Default Timing belt on my 98 2.8 tip quattro

I recently had major oil problems with my motor, with the rebuild I told them to throw a new timing belt on while they were at it. My '98 has 113000 miles and the old timing belt was in great shape. I wouldnt worry a great deal, but if you are near it any time soon it wouldnt be a bad idea to replace. It also depends on what kindof climate you are in, I figured it would have been worse then it was with the cold in michigan.

Default WHAT!!!! 50k miles? I know some people on this board are....

conservative, but 50k miles for a timing belt? Attached you will find the maintenance schedule for your 2000 2.7T. It shows the timing belt service at 104k miles. Now, that might be a little high, but 50k miles seems low to me.

I'm at 65k miles and will not worry about the timing belt until I hit 90k miles. You should go to the local dealer w/ your VIN number and see if they'll give you the maintenance history for the car. It doesn't matter if it was serviced somewhere else, the info is on Audi's database.

Good look and enjoy<ul><li><a href="http://www.bentleypublishers.com/images//tech/audi/audi.2000.maintenance.sched.pdf">maintenance schedule</a></li></ul>
