Default Turn signal flasher unit location?...

Should've bought the warranty...anyways...
Today, my turn signals stopped working. When I flick the right (or left) turn signal, the indicator lights, both outside and 'arrow' on gauge cluster, turn on once or twice & die!

The hazard switch and flashers work just fine. I am guessing that there are 2 seperate flasher units, one for the turn signal switch and one for the hazard switch. Checked the fuse (position 2, 10amp) and its just fine.

Where in my car is the "flasher unit" for the turn signals located? Any thoughts on what else could cause this?
Thanks.

Default Replace hazard switch...

It's actually a box that includes the hazard switch. You remove the trim piece around the hazard switch and cupholders, remove the hazard switch, and replace with the same part number.

Be sure to not lose the cable that it's connected to. if you do that you're in trouble.

It's about $25-$30 and took me about 15 mins to get the old switch out (but would take less time if doing it a second time).

Search the A6/S6 forum for "hazard switch" or "hazard relay" and you'll find instructions.

Default Thanks. Would you have a part# handy? Also...

...does this have to be purchased at a dealer or Pep Boys/RadioShack might have one?

Since the hazards switch and flashers are working fine, I was of the impression that this is a seperate relay/flasher-unit, specifically, for the turn signals.
Thanks.

Default Either way, it costs $40 bucks...but how does one...

repair something like this? If a relay is shot is must be replaced. It is afterall a sealed unit, right?!

Default its not a relay its the contacts(i think)...if you pull it out you can just bend them back

...the hazard switch comes out along with all the relays etc, i think that people just bent the contacts back to their original position and that fixed the problem...or atleast thats what i remember hearing...stf and you might find somthing

Default No it's the same and there are various part #s depending on the connecter in the back...

Best bet is to pull yours and check the number before ordering.

Dealer only.

Default My way (instructions inside)

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/48084/switch_out.jpg">

1. Pull 2 metal clips out and remove the cup holder
2. Remove blank button (=cover)
3. Thru the opennings on both sides, squeeze and pull hazard switch out (may need help of tiny fingers owner)

P.S. ! indicate metal clips that apparently you broke off the trim piece. Pull them and glue back to the trim piece before installation.
