Default REAR fog light question...

i'd check the manual, but it's on vacation in a warmer climate, and at 30 something degrees i don't feel like tearing the car apart all for naught, so i'm hoping that someone here can tell me if the "fog lights" that seem to be on both sides of the license plate (US car) are truly intended to be on BOTH sides or if that's only the appearance, and that in fact the one on the left is the only one that should light up (as with several other euro brands... and the old 911 with the singular rear fog mounted under the bumper). i NEVER use them, but tonight when i was loading things into the trunk they, er - it... had accidentally been turned on and the left side unit was the only one working. IF there is intended to be light from the right side of the plate - bonus points to anyone who can tell me what type of bulb to pick up so that i can go start to finish on the repair... if NOT - even better. TIA. r.

Default Up until recently Audis shipped to the US came with a single rear fog like your Porsche.

The other lamp was simply for countries where it might be required to light on the other side (right hand drive). People have made the modification to switch on both (documented on the forum), but of course now it looks like brake lights, rather than a fog light. Obviously that has pros and cons. You choose.

Default I'm back from the garage......

double checked on mine (same model). Only the left light lights, but the manual does not specifically state what lights. Of note, Saturday I received from Audi a booklet in the mail titled "Audi Portfolio" which states that Audi's have a single rear fog light on the driver's side (except for the A6 and TT). So maybe that means there are two and my right light is burned out. I'm curious. I can't quickly find the light bulb type.

Default thanks for making the trip :-}...

your "hands on" and april's always amazing wealth of knowledge lead me to believe that we're "as we should be". it's best that way. i try to limit driveway time to 45 degrees and sunny unless for the purpose of salt cleansing, and i think that those days may be few and far between for the season. r.

Default thanks! i'll stick with the traditional lefty... it's funny though -

how quickly i would have been off in search of a bulb to replace the one that was burned out - only to never intend to see it lit after the "test fire". can you tell that there's a little bit of alfa in my blood as well. i'm really NOT a TYPE A... i swear. it's just CARS.

oh yeah. and books.

and the refrigerator.

and ...

oh hell, maybe i AM just a little a.

thanks again - as always - rob.
