Default GIAC Chip and Tranny question

Have recently flashloaded the GIAC X chip about 2 weeks ago, and the only pronblem I notice is the transmission (auto of course) seems really moody, like it doesn't know what gear it wants. It seems to do this while the least amount of load is required, and it is really annoying. It feels like you hit a brick wall for a second when cruising, and does this problem go away? Similar problems with other chips like APR or Oct? Have tried leaving it in tip or sport mode when cruising, to no avail.

Any suggetsions greatly appreciated, thanks in advance for your help.

Default have you also added the tip chip?

that should take care of things... they say adding a chip to a tip car without the Giac Tip Chip causes the car to hunt for the right gear since it doesn't know what to do with the extra torque

Default it does both

it is supposed to quicken shifts, but for those with the ecu chip upgrade it also re-programs the tcu to understand the ecu changes better and handle them correctly. This will totally correct your issues

thanks doc, I feel better already! wheel question, just read your other post, do you currently have the 17x8 4.2 wheels on your car now, or another wheel? I may be interested in purchasing a decent set of the 4.2 wheels as I love the stance it gives the 2.7 cars. Anyway, thanks for your help with the tip chip.

Default not a prob....

I have the factory 16x7" non sport rim as shown in the pic from tonight, but bought the original set of 17x8" "sport" rims tonight and hope to have on tomorrow morning. Boston Driver just instaled the same exact rims on his 2.7T a few days ago if you want to see them with a lowered car- otherwise hit Potomac's pic poster for non-lowered shots since he has a 2.7 with those rims as well

Default The Dr. is correct...

The stock TCU is programed with a torque limit. When faced with the added torque of a chipped ECU it doesn't know what to do and "hunts" for the correct gear. This phenomenon seems to be most pronounced with the GIAC X program. I've run GIAC S and O.CT K03 programs without experiencing this. Many others have, though. If you do a search on "Tip gear hunting" you'll find a lot of information.

The GIAC Tip chip should cure your problems and will speed up shifts in Tip mode as well.

Default Well.....

I have a tip chip and GIAC S-chip (lower boost), and while the tip chip solves some of the performance problems, it doesn't solve them all. Specifically, the tendency for the tip to drop from 5th to 4th by itself (in tip mode) continues.

I'm having a transmission nightmare which may be traced to the tip chip. Too soon to tell.

Overall, it's a worthwhile mod. These are complex cars, and when you change engine torque, the transmission gets "confused." I went with a lower boost chip to ease the strain on the tip and other parts.

Default Strange...

I'm putting out a lot more torque now with the K04s and haven't had any gear hunting issues. I don't recall hearing about any gear hunting issues with non-GIAC chipped ECUs. Hmmmm.

Best of luck with your tranny issues. Fyi, the L10 torque converter is a nice improvement over stock - less slipping and quicker engagement.
