Could this be the end? (longish)
It's not a done deal yet, but the A6 may be going away tomorrow. Given my participation here mostly consisted of lurking, I don't expect to be missed too much, though.
The A6's departure has NOTHING to do with fuel economy, practicality, or reliability. In fact, I'm bored, and want a new car. It's that simple.
Having said that, though, if the A6 had a 5-spd, I might have considered keeping it longer. I have had 13 cars in the last 15 years, and five were slushboxes. Two of those were SUV's with not manual option, and two were MBZ's with no manual option. The fifth is the A6. Tiptronic or not, I do not like my transmission and my new car most definitely will have a stick.
So feel free to come visit me on the Subaru boards, as I'm probably getting a Legacy GT tomorrow morning. I plan a real farwell post upon taking delivery.

No argument here. Manual trans is the only way to fly. 8-)
That said, I think a Legacy GT is going to be a let down compared to an A6. I've been test driving Imprezas because my wife wants one and the Subaru thing just isn't doing it for me. Even the WRX and STi, while fast, just feel cheap. The interiors are better than they were a few years ago, but it still feels so econoboxish...
I'm trying to talk my wife into something more useful, but she likes the "styling" of the Impreza wagon. Ugh...

A Subie is definitely NOT an Audi. (Which is good and bad)
I've driven the STi, the WRX, and the LGT, and my expectations of the quality feel have been adjusted accordingly. They're not bad for the money, but they're not quite up to Audi specs. However, to ease the blow, I'll take comfort in the fact that I'll save over $100 / month going to the LGT.
As much as I like the Audi's posh interior, I don't really care about it so much. I really want a simple, reasonably priced, reliable car that's stil enjoyable to drive.
Not to mention, I plan to mod the beejeezus out of it over the next year or two and have one heck of a sleeper!

a buddy of
mine has a Sti... we swapped cars one day and in the end both wanted to go back to the audi his car is fun and all but i just don't like the feel i'd stay with audi and go for an s4 2.7T 6 speed there very fun and you don't sacrifice comfort like you would in any suberu
