Default Last week my ESP& ABS light keep coming on, so I scheduled an inspection at the local dealer. A

day later I had my baby back with a new brake light switch (3B0-945-511). Since then no problem with the lights; but, Saturday when I went to go to work, I get in and notice this.

Am I correct in assuming they just ripped out an interior panel to get to the switch area? It's still under warranty so they'll fix it either way. But, I like to know if it just pulled apart(highly doubtful IMO) or is shoddy work by a gorilla technicians.

Default Looks like they just didn't snug it up before bolting it down. Pull off the U shaped

trim piece above the steering wheel below the instrument cluster and you should see two plastic tabs coming up secured with two screws.

If there's any real problem, you'll see it there. They may have left those screws out allowing the lower panel to hang down.

Default They are 8mm bolts under that trim piece. You should also check...

the rest of the bolts to make sure that none of the others are missing. There are 2 under the steering column trim, 1 in the fuse box, and 2 in the lower corners of the panel.

To fix your problem here, loosen the bolts under the steering column trim and the fuse box, push the panel up with the palms of your hands. The panel should "lock" in place without you needing to hold it up to secure the bolts.

Install tip for the one by the fuse box: If you do not have a good magnetic socket, use some electrical tape to secure the bolt into the socket you are using so it will not fall out.

Default Not to be argumentative; but, it looks to me like these pieced were glued or fused together to

keep the seams tight. Shouldn't that be done again? I'm taking it back, I'd just like to know if this panel came off to access the switch?

No glue, unless previous repair did that. It should just snap in place, with bolts to secure it

Default Then what is the white area near the top left at the seam? It looks like a 1" long fusion point or

glue point that was pulled apart.

Ham-fisted mechanic did shoddy work. They let a tab of the padding get folded back.

Default EDITED! No! That is one of the tabs that bolts under the steering column trim!!!

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/hliu55/steering%20wheel/electronicsremoval6.jpg">

If you look at the left side of this pictrue from my steering wheel installation, you can see the upper edge of the lower dash panel. The first "nub" from the right edge of the panel is like a hhok that locks the panel into place when installed properly. The one just to the left of the nub is the tab that bolts to the dash under the steering wheel trim!

If that is broken, the WHOLE trim panel has to be replaced. If they broke it, they should replace it!
