Is it foolish? I dunno. Do you need 2 extra doors? Bigger trunk? Real back seats? 4WD?

MBZ quality isn't exactly stellar these days, but probably not too much different than Audi if you consider the full population of cars out there. You get bad ones in any lot.

If you think Audi has quality and reliability issues (which they seem to have a lot less of these days if Consumer Reports is any indication), you haven't seen anything until you have owned a late 1990s+ Mercedes. Don't go anywhere near the CLK320. Consumer Reports rates all late 1990s+ Benzes much worse than any Audi, old or new, in quality and reliability. Recently, CR rated the quality and reliability of Audi nearly as high as the best Japanese cars (you know who I am talking about) and much higher than BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Volkswagen, Jaguar, Land Rover, Saab and Volvo. I know I used to bash CR to no end like a stupid SOB. But truth be told, CR is right on the ball more often than they are wrong. I honestly believe that CR is right on the ball here. My $0.02.
