Anybody knows how to reset ECU?

I have A6 2000, 2.8 quartroo.
I heard from my friend which is If we reset ECU, it helps gas consume and more fast responding. Is that right?
If I want to reset ECU, do I need to use VAG?(if yes, what menu do I have to get into?)
Or just disconnect baterry's negative for a while?

On my 2.7 you Reset by Removing Battery Terminals

and then shorting them out. However make sure you have your Radio Code, or you may get locked out of it.

What they said unplug ECU &/ or battery for a couple of hours. Where in PA are you?
