Default Continued about the symphony upgrade...

Alright guys i DO have the analog clock, but this is basically why i want to do this. I would like to purchase the AUDI NAV + unit because with the symphony setups it is basically just slide in with no modifications, i have the concert right now and it will not produce the amount of room i need. With a symphony 1 setup is the nav + interchangable? I believe the unit is part # 4B0 035 192 K. Any help or recomendations would be greatly appricated guys!

Default The Nav+ is the same size as the Sym I. RNS-E won't work because you have no infotainment CANbus

Talk to TeddyBGame and see if the D-navi will work. It's the one he has right now, but it still requires a CANbus connection.

Without the functionality of CANbus, you may as well go aftermarket anyway. You're going to lose your instrument cluster radio display and your steering wheel controls either way, so why not just get an aftermarket unit that will work right by itself.

Default Well here is the problem im facing...

First of all they dont make face plates for the Pioneer for my a6, so ive heard. Another thing is that im hearing that the bose system is a pain in the *** to wire up because its integrated into the stock radio. I will loose the radio display ect with the atfermarket anyway. So if it is easier to do the in-dash nav + id like to try and get that look.

Default AFAIK you can keep your bose amp and speaks, just use the line outs on your new HU.

If you go with D-NAVI, you won't have OEM SAT radio capability either. With aftermarket, you can get the latest and greatest. Completely up to you though.

Plus, with D-NAVI the nav disks are CD instead of DVD which are split into different areas of the country, and there is no audio CD player in the headunit, so you have to add a changer or phatbox to listen to anything besides AM/FM.

Default Your choice, I'm just giving out info here...

If it was my car, yes I would go with a single DIN unit. It would be the easiest and cheapest solution for upgrade. If there is enough room for a pop out screen then yes I would consider a single DIN nav unit also.

To convert your dash to double DIN means alot of OEM dash parts at a significant cost. There is no way (at this point in time) that I would spend the money and effort to convert over to D-NAVI.

Default Thanks for all the adivce..

I just got a bit nervous because the guy at the sound place was giving me crap about all of the installation. Seems that another audi got the NAV done there but he kept the stock radio in i guess to save the cluster display and the steering wheel controls, which si why i guess it took so long and was a big job to do. Well the new nav unit should be here anytime today and we are going to attempt to install it this weekend. Thanks so much for the advice, if you ever looking to get anything powdercoated... come to me, ill take care of you

Default No prob. Good luck with the install.

My audio shop told me they'd have to replace all the speakers (basically remove everything bose) to install an aftermarket radio. I told them that was bull, that all you have to do is use the line-outs on the new headunit, and the amp switched power feed.

I'll email you the bentley diagrams of the pinouts on your headunit, but they should also be on a sticker on top of your concert unit.

Default 2nd. Good advice.

Converting the centre dash to double DIN will require a bunch of parts and some fab work.

Installing Nav+ is not trivial. The only one I'd consider for an older car is C-Navi -- wouldn't mess with D. And the faceplate needs to match.

Then he'd need either a CD changer or Phatbox. Trivial installation, but added cost.

Sat radio with a Blitzsafe.

Bose should still work with aftermarket, as the key components are the low impedence amps and matching speakers. It might not sound perfect, or as intended, but many aren't all that thrilled with Bose anyway. All the OEM HUs do for Bose is adjust internal equalization to match the Bose design. There are no wiring changes.

For more info on what a pre-CAN Nav+ installation entails, and single to double DIN, check out PaulW's site at www.audipages.com. And of course www.navplus.us.
