Default Momo shift **** won't fit the stock boot... Help!

Well, I've gotten my steering rack fixed, so I am back on the road. I just bought a Momo Sphere shift **** on ebay (here: linky). This is the "Audi/VW **** that should fit the stock boot", according to the seller. But for the life of me I can't figure out how to do that! The boot opening is too small to fit over the lower part of the ****, and even if I managed to do that, there would be nothing to hold the boot in place. This is not a screw-on **** like the stock one. it's wider at the base, and comes with an adaptor that fits over the shifter rod, so the coke bottle trick would not work. Take a look at the picture: the arrow points to where the boot opening should end up. I am at a loss.

Here's another picture:

The adapter on the left goes over the shift rod, and the **** goes over the adapter.

Help!

Default Not quite...

But thanks. I just talked to Momo USA, and they told me that "well, it should fit right over!" The guy checked his application guide and said that it only lists A4 and A3, but then called Audi and verified that the boot is the same part number on the A6. So his guidance to me was... "Pull the boot over the lower part of the ****. The leather will stretch, and it should be very tight. The tight fit and the shape of the **** removes the need for a ring at the bottom to hold the boot". He actually made a lot of this stuff up as we talked, or so it seemed, and I am a bit skeptical. Oh well, I guess I'll be stretching leather tonight!

I just wonder: if they made some ***** specifically for VWs and Audis, why wouldn't they make them the same way the stock **** is made (i.e. screw-on over the shift rod)???? They are sadists, I tell ya!

Default Done... long

Well, I finished it. It's not that difficult once you understand what to do. The installation is anything but straightforward though.

For those who run into this problem in the future, here's the steps I would follow:
1. DO NOT FOLLOW STEP ONE OF MOMO INSTRUCTIONS YET! This will make things very difficult. You'll have to take it out, and that's not for the faint of heart.
2. Take the shifter and the boot off the car (unscrew the shifter, then unsnap the panel under the boot)
3. Take the boot out of the plate. It's pretty obvious. Not a mandatory step, but makes things a little easier.
4. Unscrew the two plastic parts that are passed through the boot opening. Take them out, you won't be needing them.
5. Rub the boot opening and the bottom of the new **** with soap. This will make things slide better without ruining the leather.
6. Turn the boot inside out.
7. Insert the **** through the opening. This is tricky and takes some effort and patience. It's a VERY TIGHT SQEEZE, but apparently it's possible.
8. Insert the adapter into the ****.
9. Insert and tighten to mini-screws (don't know the right term) that fix the **** and the adapter. Inserting the top one will be very difficult because the boot will cover the opening and is near impossible to move aside.
10. After this it gets easy. Just put everything back together.

The result is actually quite nice.
