Default Parts Question

OK, I know there are a million links to Parts Suppliers on Stoney's page, but I never seem to find what I need, so I'll cut to the chase -

For a 99 2.8Q, I need to get Valve Cover Gaskets and Spark Plug Wires. I changed the plugs last night and I had oil on 2 of the 6 boots. One of them was GUSHING. Electrodes were not wet though, and side of block under those areas were black from oil so it looks pretty open and shut.

Any "gotchas" on changing the gaskets that I should be aware of?

Thanks~!

Default The gotcha is: hope that it's the valve cover gaskets...It could just as likely be the dreaded...

Cam seals leaking!

Default Yikes, hope not!

Would you find oil leaking onto the block if that were the case?

Is this on the oil cap side? If the seal or cap is bad, this could happen too.

Default One on each side, but....

I <b>did</> notice, come to think of it, that the seal for the oil cap seemed to pop out rather easily after I removed the cap and seemed to be a little warped.
TKS~

Default You definitely have leaking valve cover gaskets. Cam adjuster gasket leaks will

cause a burning oil smell in the cabin if the passenger side is leaking and oil on the front of the driver side bank.

If you don't experience an objectionable burning oil smell in the cabin or smell smoke, just replace your valve cover gaskets.

There's a great how to on www.audipages.com by Paul W. It's basically the same.

You can get the gaskets from the dealer or ECS.

Default A few lucky ones have them leaking both(oil on the block+burning oil smell)

Somebody mentioned the Audi Technicians joke that goes:
"Did you see the V6(Audi) that does not leak oil?"..since there is no such V6
Getting them done(gaskets and seals) with the TB in 3-4K miles...hope I will not leak oil for few thousand miles...

Default Yeah...no oil smell so I'm thinking just the valve covers

and that will be a relief!

Thanks-

Default At any rate, the cam adjuster gaskets aren't really a big deal to do. I have

done mine without taking camshafts out in about 2 hours per side (going slowly and carefully).
