For the record I did search navplus, what I can't seem to find is what happens to the Nav...
system that's already in my car. Would that system have to be removed in order for an RNS-D or E to work. I'm guessing yes.

I believe that is where GALA comes in?
The current NAV should not have to be removed. In fact, you should still be able to see the turns in the rectangle in the cluster. I think I read that somewhere if I'm not mistaken. But it's been a while.

Nope. The existing US Nav system become redundant.
The only thing that's reusable is the antenna, but you need to find an extension cable to run it from the trunk to the dash.
You *could* leave it in place, but why? The disc reader in the trunk will no longer be used, the headunit is replaced. You would need to undo the wiring from the disc reader to the headunit.
So the rotating **** switch in the centre console is then dead and useless.
The new RNS unit will communicate with the CAN bus for the centre gauge display.
