$400 wasted trying to chase a squeeking noise from front end.

I took my car in to a local shop, they put it up on the lift and drove around for a while and told me my outer tie rods were shot and stabilizer links. I orders parts from ECS tuning and took it back there to install it. Driving back home and the squeeky more of a creeking sound came back. Happens when I turn the wheel and its coming from the D side in front. Im think it might be ball joint or something else? any ideas? if its the control arms which one can it be there are 4 of them.

I can't help but I'm interested in knowing what you find out. It sounds exactly like my problem. Initially I thought it was coming from the steering column. The sound was like a rub or a hum when I turned the wheel (almost like the power steering fluid was low). I've since turned off the radio and paid more attention and noticed that the rub sound is there sometime even when I'm going straight.

Strange

My '91 100 had a squeak when I turned the wheel while driving. Under warranty my driver seat was taken apart and reassembled, but it didn't help. The gentleman that played chauffer for the dealer found the cause. The hub of the steering wheel is so close to the dash that it rubbed and squeaked. The space is so narrow but I figured out a fix. I stuff a few folds of kitchen waxed paper in the crack and rotate the wheel a few times to transfer the wax. No squeak until the next time when I rewax the hub.

Sound like control arm/bushings. Mine got to squeaking and clunking pretty good at 90K miles on my '99.5, and I had all arms and tie rods ends replaced (kit from ECS tuning). That fixed the problem immediately, and the whole front end was much tighter.

But, 10K miles later now, I began to hear a squeak and clunk again, though not as bad as before I had the whole lot replaced. Into the mechanic, and clearly, visibly, the right upper front arm bushing was moving and already shot. ECS sent a replacement arm (and the other upper to be safe), and those have fixed the problem. Unfortunately, the redo cost me $120 in labor.

Lower control arm......

I had the same problem. Clunking on the left side and squeeking on the right. Had the left front upper control arm changed and the right lower control arm.....total $330. Much better now.
