Default Interesting....Audi advice on the "warped rotor" situation.....

As many of us have been advised, we've been told by Audi service managers and service advisors to take your car up to higher speeds, and slam on the brakes 5 or 6 times to get rid of the shimmy....

I've done that a few times, hoping this would work.

I had my PA inspection done today and the car failed. The front pads are worn to the sensor (don't remember if the sensor comes on in the front or back), and the pads were cracked.

Good advice Audi.....what if these things really failed and caused an accident? I would have never expected this on a sub 20K car.

Otherwise still love zee car.

Default Sensor is on the front.. and what the tech told you to do...

is basically how to bed in new rotors and new pads. Doing it to already worn stuff does nothing except heat up the rotors and sometimes ads mor pad gunk to to and already overloaded rotor.

The link below is to all the 'bedding in' and scuff down procedures that Stoptek suggests.

Going through pads prior to 20k is more a reflection on your driving conditions..not the parts themselves.

click

Default this was the service manager that told me to do this on existing rotors/pads.....

Thanks guys,

I knew that was the bedding procedure for new stuff. Thanks for the sensor info. The garage showed me the pads, and it was worn to the wires. I'm surprised it hadn't come on.

Default Those of us who've done track days do that 20 times per lap, for 30+ laps and...

... end up with pads that are still good for another track day.

Bedding the brakes properly (that's what it's called) will not harm the pads or rotors.

Default I think you're missing the point....this is what Audi advisors are telling

people to do to fix the warped rotor issue....

Slamming on your brakes at highway speeds six times is not going to smooth out a warped rotor...or help the pads.
