bentley manual

Is there a place I can downloand the Bentley Manaul, legally of course? I don't want to do the E-Bahn or whatever, because if I pay 100 bucks I want to have it forever. Anyone know if there is a place to DL from?

From what I understand of your question, the best bet is just to buy it and print it out. (more)

There's no way to get around the ebahn bull**** that I am aware of.

what's this? Does this mean that the CD-ROM is not transferrable from one PC to another?

That's the main reason I haven't bought one yet...

I'd be happy to buy one if it didn't have all the activation annoyances. I rarely have a windows installation for very long, so I'd need to be installing it (on the same computer) many times.

Another case of a lost legit customer from adding too many annoying anti-piracy measures.

At least for VAG-COM software, if you have an official cable, it acts as a "dongle" therefore making the registration/licensing process not annoying.

I have the manual on CD but I'd rather have a printed book which is easier to use but not available. The software is a pain. God knows how many gazillion pages that is assuming that it prints everything. My printer will print on both sides of a page but I'm not about to try it. I've printed individual pages for specific problems.

gotcha - thanks for the input. If the board can help walk me through

my cam gasket ordeal, then I will just order up the CD and wait for it to get here.

You can buy it for about $65 from bimmerzone.com, and if you contact Bentley Publishers...

they can give you an extra license number so you can use the CD-ROM on a second PC if you need to.

Yes, I definitely prefer the VAG COM approach (dongle license) where the cable to the "key", and since you can only ahve one cable, there should be no issue with having multiple copies of the software.

That being said, the Bentley Manual is a good tool for learning how to take some things apart, but my experiences have shown that the steps are not as complete as you may think. Nothing like trial and error....
