Default Attended a Meguiars detailing clinic this weekend

Jeff Shipley from Meguiars was kind enough to give up Saturday to give a very indepth class on car detailing. Although he used Meguiars products, he emphasized that the techniques could be used with any quality product.

You can find these techniques anywhere online, so I won't bore you with them. I did find some neat new items from Meguiars worth having though (and I have no affiliation with Meguiars in any way).

Some of the cars that showed up.

Engine detailing with a Maserati Coupe

<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/verdegrrl/.Pictures/Detailing-and-Rudy/Detail-6.jpg">

One really cool product he used was called Hyper Dressing. Jeff liberally sprayed the Maser's engine with it when he was done cleaning, then closed the hood (the engine was slightly warm). An hour later he opened the hood and the chrome was shiny, the rubber was rich and black, and there was no greasy residue anywhere. It's a professional level product that can be diluted with water to obtain the level of shine desired. 4 parts water to one part product created a satin finish

<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/verdegrrl/.Pictures/Detailing-and-Rudy/detail-5.jpg">

Then it was on to scratch removal techniques on a very brave attendee's car.

<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/verdegrrl/.Pictures/Detailing-and-Rudy/Detail-2.jpg">

Finally it was on to trim and interior, where 2 cool products caught my eye: aerosol accent dressing for creating a nice finish on grilles and other tight spots, as well the quick interior detailer wipes which can be used on everything from display screens to leather with no greasy residue.

Some of the cars attending (my ride was the blue GT3 in the top picture).

Really rare Lambo truck called an LM002 from the mid to late 80's. Designed as a military vehicle for Middle Eastern countries, they eventually sold about 400 of them.

<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/verdegrrl/.Pictures/Detailing-and-Rudy/Lambo-2.jpg">

It gets 3 miles to the gallon (premium of course) around town and maybe 9 mpg on the highway from it's 5.1 440hp V12 (from a Countach) engine. Stickshift of course, it sounds like a monster Italian sportbike and not a truck.

<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/verdegrrl/.Pictures/Detailing-and-Rudy/Lambo.jpg">

Unusual colour on this 360.

<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/verdegrrl/.Pictures/Detailing-and-Rudy/Azuro-360.jpg">

If you ever have a chance to attend one of his clinics, it's well worth it just as a refresher course if nothing else.

Then it was off to visit our machinist friend who had prepared some wheels for one of our Alfas in Malaysia. He showed us his latest project.

A tuner had come to him with a client wanting to lower his Bentley GT, while retaining the same handling and ride characteristics. Here is the air suspension strut from the Bentley. Cost about $2K each.

<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/verdegrrl/.Pictures/Detailing-and-Rudy/Bent-1.jpg">

So the tuner supplied the machinist with some basic CAD drawings of the desired new suspension parts and then the machinist worked out the details so that everything should fit and work as it should. He's got a lot of years of race car design under his belt, so I'm sure the client will be happy with the results. It's a work of art.

<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/verdegrrl/.Pictures/Detailing-and-Rudy/Bent-4.jpg">

We talked about all kinds of race cars and his next project, which will be some new and improved valve guides for the Porsche 959. Talk about a great job!

Finally it was time to go home - covering the car with masses of bugs on the way. Oh well, today was car washing day.

Hope you had as much fun as I did this weekend. Reading some of the other posts here, I'm sure you did :-D

Default "Then it was on to scratch removal techniques on a very brave attendee's car."

What's REALLY brave is going out in public in California dressed like this dude! What a BAD-***! I wish I was that gnarly!

Looks like it must have been a great day, and that's one HELL of a "loaner" you had. Good grief!

Interesting seeing that LM002. First time I've seen one in ages. One of the girls in my high school class had a dark green one (one of her family's many exotics). Thing was fricking awesome. But boy, she was such a ****!! How I loved that dear, dear girl...

Might have to look into that Hyper Dressing product...

Default It was originally named the LM002, then renamed LM/American to celebrate our love of SUVs

The LM/Americans were the last 60 or so sold, they included special upgrades and paint.
