Wheel Compatability
I have a chance to pick up some wheels from a 04 A6 2,7T. I have a 99 A6 Avant 2.8. Can I do this? Will I need adapters? Please help. I know this is probably in the archive...but if any of you have B.T.D.T. I would appreciate the advice. Thanks

Here is what I learned
I have a 2001 A6 with the front large HP2 (4 piston calipers) all 2.7t and 4.2 have these brakes. My wheels are a 16 x 7 ET 45 (offset). These wheels and any others off a 2.7/4.2 will fit the 5 x 112 bolt pattern (on the A6) and should most surely clear the smaller 2.8 brake calipers. The larger the offset # the furhter away from the center of the wheel hub (towards the outside of the rim). You'll have to see how the offsets affect the look of the wheel on your car.

My read of the model guide is that the 2.8s never had the HP2 calipers.
As such, you should be fine. Those larger calipers are the thing that generally causes fitment issues. Given that you don't have them, you'll probably be fine going with the 03 wheels.

from an 04 to a 99 you should be ok
what you have to look out for is from 00-01.5 when the A6 had the gi-freackin-normous HP2 front brake calipers. the caliper is so big that most wheels wont fit over it, thus spacers are required. but 99 and 04 there were no HP2 calipers so the wheels should be interchangable. I repeat... SHOULD. do you homework to make sure because id hate for you to buy wheels based on my info and have them not fit. good luck
