02 A6 owners..Do you guys change oil once a yr (10K miles) or get usual 3K-5K oil changes
My car has 37K..last oil change was in Sep 05, since than the car was driven 1100 miles, yes 1100 only...
I am wondering if I shoudl start my own 5K Mobil 1 oil cycle or go with Audi recommendation 10K oil changes..
what do you guys say?

I usually change at 5K intervals using synthetic
It's most likely overkill, but it's not terribly expensive since I do it myself.
BMW has similar intervals (actually via a countdown on the dash) and I have seen a few pictures of sludge buildup in those engines.
For the cost and time involved in doing the change, I figure it is cheap insurance. Plus, I don't think Audi could frown on you for changing the oil too often, whereas not changing it often enough might cause problems.

If you're not happy doing 10K, split the difference and go for 7500.
5K is certainly more frequent than necessary and a waste of money, not to mention waste of a precious resource.

Everyone has a different opinion but I think that without turbos, synthetic every 10K is fine.
When I had a turbo with a 1 bar chip, I changed synthetic every 7.5K and it was running great when I sold it at 106K.

2nd...I do oil/filter every 5k on my 2.7T...
I had been using M1 5W-40, but I've switched to Delvac 1300 15W-40 recently. It seems to be doing a good job of slowly dissolving the brownish "nicotine stains"/light varnish in the engine (from what I can tell with the borescope).
