Default Would shocks from a sport suspension fit on my non-sport suspension?

I have a 2000 A6 2.7t non-sport suspension. Car is manufactured in 12/99 so i think it has the old type of supension.
I am asking this because i would like to know if i can install sport shock instead of the original ones that are on their way out...
TIA.

Default Yes, but... for the amount of work involved, you're better off getting new Konis...

or soemthing like that.. putting on used shocks is never really a smart move, especially when it's as much of a PITA as it can be on our cars.

Default Oh god, i never even thought of putting used shocks on the car... i was shopping around and...

i found all kinds of shocks, including the ones made for the sport suspension and i was curious if they would fit on my non sport. I'd really hate to order the shocks and when i'm half way through the job to discover they don't fit.
Thanks!

Default Exactly. I don't get the concept of used shocks either. It doesn't make any sense at all...

when you consider the labor involved to change them. New shocks aren't THAT expensive.

Also, shocks have a finite lifespan. I've pulled sport shocks out of Audis with 30k miles and they were already finished. I just took mine out of the A6 at 75k and my young daughter was able to push and pull the piston without much effort.

In short....get new ones.

Cheers,

Default If you don't have sport springs, I'd just install the "normal" shocks....or...

Install springs at the same time. All the usual suspects sell spring/shock sets and give a discount for buying both at the same time.

Cheers,

Default OH! In that case, make sure that you get shocks that have the normal length shaft....

Bilstiens tend to use shorter shafts on their sport shocks, since most people use them with shorter springs..

You can use an uprated shock with the stock springs, you'll get improved handling, and ride most likely.

Default I think i asked the question wrong :). Do the rear shocks fail pretty often too? I'm at 83k...

the front ones, especially the left, are almost gone but i don't want to wait until i drive a barge.
Thanks.
