Question: Does a 2002 A6 4.2 OEM "cat-back" exhaust fit a 2000 A6 2.7t?

Answer: Why yes it does! In fact, it's a direct bolt-on, with the obvious need to modify the rear valance for the exposed tips. I only had to purchase a new set of sleeve clamps around $20, to replace my rusted set.
After:

The 4.2 set-up also appears to be about 2-1/8" in diameter, where as MY2000 2.7t set-up was only 2" across. The 4.2 was tapered at the ends where it would fit into the clamps. Not a huge gain, but special thanks to Boston Driver for the donation of his old set-up, the car looks totally different. It's now much more aggressive and sporty looking. I still need to clean up some little burs around the cut-outs and then decide how to finish the edges.

I will say that, in fear of cutting too much out of the valance, I just kept raising the mufflers until they hit the valance, then traced around the tips w/caulk and trimming more off each time. I must have made about 5-6 passes w/the Dremel using the cutting disks. Used about only 3 disks in total. I finally stopped when I could re-hang the mufflers on the stock hangers.

I like the new look a lot and was then able to pass on a set of '02 OEM mufflers w/tips, that I had been hanging on to, to another local AW'er for his '01. You gotta love this community!
And sorry for the "dark" pics, it was getting later and !@#$%^&* battery in the camera about to die.
I know, these are ovals, but you get the idea...
