Default When do the stock sport shocks go out?

98.5 tqms 68K - and it vaguely feels like it is no longer as tight as it used to be.

At what mileage did you replace them?

TIA all

Default 36k miles for me. With not much effort, I could compress them with my hands when they were....

taken off of my car.

Default it's not really possible to judge a struts condition by hand

the sport shocks compress fairly easily brand new. That's just how they are, soft. try pulling out quickly, that's a good bit harder. About the only thing you can really check by hand is for signs of fluid loss or totally blown shocks. Otherwise your just fishing in the dark

Default

most factory shocks are a bit loose by 70K. The neuspeed Bilsteins seem to be well liked here

Default Well, I couldn't even budge the Neu/bils, so that tells me they are stiffer.

At 35K miles, my car was not nearly as firm as it was with 5k miles.

Default yea the factory sports are pretty soft and the Bilstein sports are obviously much stiffer

but that doesn't change tha fact that you can't tell a shocks wear condition by hand. If you think you can you are wrong. obviously if it doesn't return at all or is bent or something like that you can tell. but just for wear forget it. there is no way that your arm pressing down on the shock is going to simulate the pressures on the shock when they are in the car. I've compared many shocks over the years and you can never tell for sure how a shock is going to respond in a car just by pushing down on it.
