Just replaced my stock resonator with a straight pipe, sounds great!
The exhaust system I am now running is 2.5" piping all the way from the cat to the muffler. I removed the resonator and replaced it with 2.5" straight piping all the way to my Remus muffler.
It sounds great now. I was affraid it might sound ricey but it has a nice deep and throaty sound. It only cost me $50 at the shop and made a huge difference. I recommend this to anyone with a Remus muffler who is looking for a deeper sound out of their exhaust system.

Do you have a picture of your exhaust kit? Cuz i'm not undestanding...
What a resonator does and where it is on the exhaust systems.
Oh, and on my '91 Audi I went straight pipe back from my cat to my muffler.

So is that different from...
A front muffler?
On my '91 I have a OBX performance muffler - - > front muffler (resonator??) - - > pipe to cat - - - - > CAT - - > manifold
Is that right?
Or just on the newer cars?

Take a look at mine, but with the stock muffler...

You can see where the center resonator was removed and replaced with a piece of pipe. This is the main restriction within the stock exaust system. Next step for me is a remus muffler to deepen the tone. But overall I'm very happy.

What do you mean?
You didnt like the noise level - or the tone. I agree the tone is quasi rice in lower gears when accelerating hard. But it mellows out when cruising. A remus muffler would hit the spot as far as lowering the tone down to a deep growl.

Both... Actually....
One: It probably wouldn't pass DEQ for noise level it was FARKING LOUD! In drive it sounded like it was in 2nd gear...
Two: It made it sound like farting when I acclerated.
I quickly got the front muffler replaced and had it back to it's deeper tone.
