Wow, I've been thinking about chipping my car. That looks like a good price. What do I need to install it? Can I do it myself or is it something for the tuner shops to do? How much would it cost for a shop to put that in?

make sure that if you buy that particualr chip that your car is a non drive by wire because that chip is from a 2000 A4 which is non-drive by wire
I spoke with awe-tuning and they told me a non-dbw chip cannot be recoded to a dbw chip
I wouldnt try to do it yoursef unless your real good with a souldering gun.
the best is awe-tuning they will socket the chip and let you keep your stock chip

How do I know if my car is a non drive by wire? I have a 2000 1.8T Quattro 5sp. I know how to solder, but I guess I don't want to risk it. How much do tuner shops usually charge to put a chip in? My stock chip isn't too much of a concern for me seeing how warranty is gone in less than 100 miles.

Start your engine , Pop open your hood , do you see a wire/cable to the right of your engine , can you press it to rev your engine? if so then you have a drive by wire. If it is not there then you are a non-drive by wire (it is electronically controlled) I am 99.9% certain that 2000 is the first year when non-drve by wire began....but doublecheck i could be wrong

your absolutely correct i keep thinking wire = physical wire like a throttle cable ....but in audi's case 'wire' is an electronic wire.....they should have called it something else.
