Default Double Clutching and Rev Matching

Ok, I know what both are, but there are some slight technicalities I would like to get out of the way.

First, are they the same thing? Or is Double clutching for a syncro-less tranny?
Second, when rev matching, is it necessary to have the shifter in the neutral position or can you just have the clutch pressed down?

Default Double clutching...

Is great for downshifting into first gear while moving. There is a small range for me where the car is going to slow for second but just a little too fast for first. Its hard to get it into first gear because I don't think there is a synchro. But if you DC it will fall right into first gear. If you want to learn more about this I suggest you read "Going Faster", by Skip Barber. I never really understood DC or HT until I read about it in that book.

Default It works better if the clutch is up though...

That is why it is called double clutching, cause you have to push the clutch in twice to make the downshift. Really not necessary on modern cars though because of the synchros.

Default double clutching is useless on our cars

If you search you should find a few more knowledgable guys than me concurr. DC'ing is useless A)b/c we have syncros and B) because we are not changing gears but changing the gear ratio that is connected to the engine when we shift. So, to better explain it go here and

here
