Heat blowing out of left side vent when A/C is on

Heat blowing out of left side vent when A/C is on
May have posted this to wrong forum, so I'm posting in here on A6/C6:
Has anyone found a resolution to this issue? I have a 2004 A6 4.2. Several times recently, after driving for 30 minutes or so with the A/C on, heat will start pounding from the driver's side vent. Can't get it to stop.
Outside air temp was around 85 degrees, A/C set to 72ish. Once, the heat was coming out of the left center vent too. Other times it was just the driver's vent by the door.
Anyone find out what causes this?
