Hmm. I guess replacing mine when the wear bars are gone is bad.

I've always changed mine at 4/32", 5/32" for winter tires...

according to those tests, I've already lost quite a bit of wet traction by then. I guess it's a trade off since, as Mr. Press alluded to, shallower tread makes for better, more predictable dry traction.

I guess the lesson is, be more careful in the rain.

Suggestion : replace before a winter if tread is getting near 5/32

If it's summer in CA, it's not really a worry

No winter here. Rain is my only hazard really.

And, I usually replace 'em before the rainy season arrvies. But, when it's dry... I'll run them nearly bald before replacing them.
