Default Brakes... deal or no deal?

I have posted a few times on brakes... but this time I really need to get the parts and get it over with (a bit of grinding... yikes). Looking for a set that is slightly better than stock, but not break the bank.

Anyone use the set linked below? I am not sure I need the SS lines, so maybe could be a bit less without that.

The other option I am thinking is the Hawk HPS pads from Tire Rack for ~$210 shipped and ~$241 for all 4 rotors from Audi dealership.. no shipping (plus maybe $50 for the fluid, etc). $500 for the whole set up about.

Any help or anyone who bought recently would be helpful. Gotta finally make the purchase (as well as TB, TBB, Plugs, etc coming up in the next couple weeks).

Cli ck for Brake Package

Default DF what AB! Why would you replace rotors? Which pads making grinding nose? Replace those and check..

the others, they may be good.

Default The fronts are starting to grind. The low pad light has been on for almost a year now...

but kept checking to see how much meat I had left. The front are almost all the way down now, and the backs are not too far off. I have about 65,000 miles on these brakes, and the rotors looks a bit worn down as well, so would rather do the entire set up. 85K on those rotors.

Default Check the rotor thickness with a dial or digital caliper against the minimum wear spec...

...in a few different places on the rotor. Some prefer the accuracy of a micrometer, but I figure if it's that close to the wear limit it's time to replace the rotors anyway.

The minimum thickness depends on which type of brakes you have - for the HP2 rotors I believe the minimum thickness is 28 mm (they are 30 mm new).

Default The grinding noise is the passive wear sensors talking to you, don't ignore it! Buy new pads...

for the front and replace.
As for rotors, IM (contrarian) O, worn rotors are better than new, inasmuch as rotors tend to wear true. Toward this end, key each of your rotors to its mating hub with center punch marks such that rotor to hub orientation is never lost, nor rotors ever mismatched to the wrong hub.
The unworn annular rings either side of the active rotor surface make for a most effective 4 wheel, 8 surface passive wear sensor system, when any one of them contacts a worn pad's backing plate. I always short out the active pad wear sensors at the pad side connector, eliminating that year of warning light.

Default Are they pulsing? If not, check the thickness, and replace if necessary.

Non-pulsing discs are worth holding on to!
