Gas mileage is all about driving style
He returned the car today with 133 miles on the tripmeter and less than a Quart of gas used. Usually at that fuel level my trip meter reads 85 or less miles. It was all city+hwy mix driving.
Also, my 3 month average went from 18.2 to 18.6( my calculated average is 18.5 mpg and get around 285-315 Miles per tank) and the "miles before refuel" was at 365.
I drive like a grandma (most of teh time), never "take off" from the light and always coast to a stop, I have no clue how slow/easy he drove for 133 miles in 2 days to make the mileage jump that high.
I guess its all in the driving style.
Driving like a grandpa, I'm lucky to break 16mpg driving to and from work every day.
In contrast, my commute is 2 miles each way on flat ground with roughly 18 stop lights in between. On a good day I'll stop at 5 or 6 of them, otherwise I stop at least 10 or more times and also sit in stop/go traffic.
If it weren't for my need to pick up my son on the way home I'd walk it to work. Certainly cheaper and healthier . .
Interestingly, if my wife and I trade cars (she's got a Dodge Caravan) we each get better mileage on our respective routes. I guess this little 2.8 and tip tranny aren't as efficient in stop and go as a 3.3 in a grand caravan. Of course given the choice I'm obviously driving my A6 to work anyways . . LOL !

My post was more about the "jump" in gas mileage solely based on different or "better" driving style.
Until yesterday, I thought I drive like a grandma, now I stand corrected, my dad drives like a grandma..
