Avant suspension(?) noise
Car: 2003 A6 Avant...several months back (around 41k miles), started hearing an occasional, muffled, mild booming noise seemingly from the rear of the car. It's a booming, drum head positive-negative pressure type noise, not a rotational scrape, screech, rumble, etc. It seems perfectly in rhythm with vertical suspension movement, i.e, in synch with road surface..series of quick small booms on smooth roads, more pronounced booms on bad, uneven pavement. No tire or wheel issue...three brands of tires tried, no change. Wheels are round and not warped. One dealer tried another set of wheels, no change. F/R alignment is in spec, tires wearing evenly..Car has been thoroughly checked by two dealers cumulatively for about eight days, who found no wheel bearing issues, no loose parts, no bad CV joints, etc. Access panels in the interior wheel wells fit tight, spare is tight, nothing loose in that area.
Dealers are stumped.
It's getting louder, it's really annoying, and I'm getting frustrated. I can now hear a little of it as soon as the car stars moving...Any ideas? Since it seems in synch with vertical suspension movement, could it be a bushing or strut issue? Anything that can be lubricated?
