2003 S6 transmission issue- the car is revving up to around 3-4k rpms and then finding a gear (3rd?)
An experienced trans guy guessed it might be a low fluid issue. It has never been changed or filled and I have 70k miles now.
I've had other guesses include torque converter and a bad clutch finger mechanism. I would love if it was just a fluid issue. Dealer is looking at it on Tues but in the meantime it sits in my garage.
A fluid and filter change should is about $150 in parts + labor and mark up.

torque converter was bad. Definalty find a reputible place. i didnt take it to a dealer, but an import trans shop that does mostly bently's (they get all the business at one of the bently shop here in chicago).
i am under EZ-Care ext warranty, so i lucked out, but the bill wasn't that crazy anyway. if i remember, it was upper 2K.
either way, it sucks. why would they spec the trans so close to the car's ability. dumb! the best thing is that the trans shop said that it will most likely never happen again as they will be rebuilding by hand rather than machine. extra care put in, and more exating tolerances. it will be stronger than original.
good luck!
