Default A6 4.2 V8 vs A6 2.7T Auto vs A6 2.7T Manual

Hi guys,
we are in a process of buying a Audi A6 but need your opinions on a 4.2 V8, chipped 2.7T/auto and chipped 2.7T/manual.
I have had rwd V8 BMW-s (love their smooth power) but have no experience with turbo cars.
How does 4.2 compare to 2.7T-s in city driving and on highway (and other stuff like that)?
Thanks.

Erik

Default Drive them all, and your heart will tell you which one is right for you...

...and which one will suit your style of driving.

I love the 4.2 because of the V8 growl and the smooth power band. I love the 2.7T becuase it is quick off the line, and a bit less of a fuel hog. I would never drive a manual because of all the stop-n-go traffic I sit in on a dialy basis.

Drive them...then you'll know which one is right for YOU!

Default The characters of each is different, not to mention the attraction many of us have to

flared fenders and potential for RS6 cosmetic parts upgrades. I notice that my 4.2 is a lot quieter at freeway speeds (about 900 rpm less @80), but is only available in Tip form. If you lust after a manual, then the 2.7 is your baby. I would tend to stay away from chipping, as it sems that those who have the most troubles have chipped. Check the model guide at the top of the page for more specific featrue differences. I had a 2.8 tip b4, which I really loved, but so far, the 4.2 even gets better mileage. And I love my sport seats in this one. I'm sure that many others will weigh in on this one.

Default Agree with jbchinoca and press, but want to add

..that the MT6 is less likely to have troubles (failures) than the 5HP19 or 5HP24 tips. The 4.2 cars, especially, have had some tip problems.

That said, I love my S6 overall - and went to it from a 2.7t S4.
