whats a safe way to trigger a cel???

How could I trigger a CEL safely to check to see if someone had tinkered with the light in the dash?

Vagcom is giving me a intermittent CPS signal error, and I'm kinda wondering why I don't have a CEL for it.

Disconnect vac lines underhood, especially the sec. air injection ones

All instrument lights should come on briefly at start-up (called the "bulb check"). Also, not all

error codes cause the CEL to illuminate - intermittent connections, small evap leaks, etc can cause stored codes but no CEL.

When you start the engine, watch the instrument cluster for the amber-colored picture of an engine block w/ a lightening bolt - I believe that's what it looks like, IIRC.

Unplug an injector or the evaporator valve for a few seconds with the engine running.

You don't always get the MIL for intermittent faults.

Also, simply turn the key to the "On" position without starting the car and all warning lights will

come on. It is possible to have codes stored w/o the CEL/MIL being illuminated - things like random multiple misfires will only cause MIL if there are enough of them. BTDT.
