Battery Jump OK?
My 85 BMW 635 has been sitting so long now since I got the '00 A6 4.2 that the battery has gone down. I know I shouldn't jump the A6 from another car, but can I jump the 635 from the A6 w/o any problems.

touch the wrong pole to the wrong pole... and watch the sparks fly...
do not do this. pray you are holding the rubber end if you mistakenly swap the contacts. always + to + and - to -. wait a bit of time, jump car, wait more, remove in same exact but in reverse order you put it on
or u can do what luv hate says, and do and + to + and - to ground(car body) for safety sake
(the battery, yes can "blow up" if the charge is sent backasswards) and never let the two cables clamps touch each other.

Procedure :
Start donor car.
1) Connect red lead to + on donor car.
2) Connect other end of red lead to + on flat battery car.
3) Connect black lead to - on donor car
4) Connect other end of black lead to - on flat battery car.
Start flat battery car. Immediately disconnect in the reverse of the above order.
ie : Black lead first, then the red.

3) Connect black lead to - on donor car
4) Connect other end of black lead to - on flat battery car.
Start flat battery car. Immediately disconnect in the reverse of the above order.

I always make the final connection to a metal part in the engine bay of the dead car...
It's safer, and works just as well. Also, your first two steps should be reversed. Start with the dead battery, and work your way around. Also safer.
