Default Experienced Audi owners please help (Long....sort of)

I purchased my car back in March and since then I have noticed that when climbing up in RPMS under load the transition is not as smooth as I'd expect. It feels like the car is "surging" and only happens when car is at operating temp not when cold. I also notice a slight ping when this is happening. So at first I thought it may be just bad gas or something like that so I added a bottle of Techron. After driving about a 1/2 talk the CEL came on. Having a warranty I took it to Audi and was diagnosed with the following -

2 DTC's - Bank 1, 2 mixture too lean, load detection bank 2 sensor 1 resistance to large. Replaced MAF and bank 2 front 02 sensor on drivers side. Codes were cleared and off to the races.

Noticed pinging had quieted, but still had some what of a surge. Decided to change plugs, fuel filter and added another bottle of Techron. Drove a while and damn it the check engine light is back on.

Any thoughts as to what else it may be? Should I attempt to replace the remaining 02 sensors? The one that was replaced was a PITA FWIU, but are the ones that weren't changed easier to do? Could the coil packs be bad?

Beside this issue I also have had the transmission replaced and the oil cooler (5700.00 job). Oh and the cluster as well.
Good times!!

Default Let's start with the facts - what were the next codes?

You clearly have a mixture problem. of the common components, O2 sensors are the "maint items" with a finite life. The MAF,a s you found, can go, but often only needs cleaning.

I'd begin simple. Pull codes - have a smart guy analyze them - not replace parts yet. Check for vacuum leaks. Maybe O2 sensor - they don't go forever after all. Clean the throttle body.

I'll assume you dont have a warranty. But someone needs to do more diagnosis and less parts swapping - if its on your bill. On someone else -- maybe take the new parts.

Default I do have...

a warranty and the DTC's were pulled by dealer as I don't have the tools to read them. The parts they changed were covered and I assumed they were the culprit.

So, every time you add a bottle of Techron you get a CEL soon afterwards? Coincidence?

Default Surging is a common result of vacuum leaks. Could still have one and the other work made it better

but didn't totally cure all your issues. Is idle rough? Can you hear a hissing sound at idle with hood open? After so many years and esp after having major work done, it is not uncommon for a vac hose or two to be left unconnected or become cracked.

Not saying this is definitely the issue, but it is a common issue on these cars - lots of hoses and lots of underhood heat = bad news for vac system leaks.

Default Never really noticed a vacuum sound, but I will go to my indy...

tomorrow to see what the new codes are. Is there another way to check for vacuum leaks? I have checked what hoses I could and they all look fairly new.

Default I thought that as well, but aren't these fuel additives supposed to be safe?

especially Techron?

Could a bad gas cap cause any of this?

Default Not unless you get a code that is vacuum specific, that I know of anyway. My main point was don't

rule out multiple causes and fixing some of them will improve the situation but may not totally eliminate the symptoms. Vac leaks are relatively common as these cars age and sometimes are even easy to fix! Good luck.
