Default Better to use ECS timing belt kit or Audi dealership parts?

The dealership said $450 using ECS parts I bought or $700-+ using their parts. They said they prefer to use their own saying they've seen trouble with "aftermarket" stuff. But seeing as the parts ECS sells are all major brand name German parts, I don't think there would be a problem.

And I don't recall reading any stories about problems with customers who did their own timing belt using the ECS parts.

What's the story?

Default Or, you can call me and I can hook you up with OEM parts at a very nice price.

I'm working tomorrow from 8:30-2 EST....

Default heard a few horror stories from the AR forum about some problems with the kit but YMMV.

although I had an OEM tensioner fail after being installed. No personal experience with the kit but you may want to check over there to see what experiences were.

Default lessons learned..

not only use OEM parts, but have the repair shop supply them. This is one area where savings is not all that important. There have been too many stories of sheared bolts and bad bearings leading TB Failure/interference engine. In some cases the shop doing the work took care of it, in other cases (DIY)..$thousands in head repairs out of your own pocket.
