Default Engine stalls on hard braking...
I thought this was an electrical problem, since I can see the voltage meter drop toward 12 just before the car stops. But someone pointed out that if the car is stalling for any other reason, the voltage meter would drop also. I still suspect some short or open in the wiring, since if I brake hard I can see the voltage meter drop below 14 even if the car doesn't stall. But if anyone has any other thoughts on why my car, which runs perfectly at all other times, would stall on a hard brake downhill, lemme know...

Default I suggested that you pull codes. Have you been able to do that?
That's your first step.

Default Haven't seen the CEL light up; would there be codes in there anyway?

Could be. The ECU can store codes without lighting. I'd check the trans too.

Default CHECK TRANNY FLUID LEVEL.
LOW FLUID LEVEL WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO STALL UNDER
BRAKING.

Default When your car is shut off and has been sitting, do you reserve brake assist left?
A failing check valve in the vac brake booster can cause stalling under those conditions.

Car off and sitting for an hour or so. Press brake to floor a few times. It should be easy at first then by the 2nd or 3rd depression get difficult.

Does yours behave that way?

Default the brake pedal switch is a double switch..
It activates the brake lights and "stalls" the ECU. This may be a good place to look. It is a low voltage switch.

sorry to revive a >15 year old thread—-but can you give any additional info on this? I suspect my wife’s Audi tranny fluid level is low. I am getting weird surges or stalls coinciding with braking and on incline/declines, etc..
