Fair price to replace a voltage regulator?

...still trying to prepare myself for whatever the stealership finds...

I'd guess $750 or so.

Say roughly $500 for the alternator and 2.5 hours labor (if they feel generous).

That's not the problem though.

rock auto has the bosch for $250, so $500 at the dealer would probably be in the ball park. It really is too bad as the alternator can be rebuild for very little$, if he wants to do the R&R himself.
