I'm considering a move to the Madison WI area (somewhere from Madison to Waterloo). I'll be looking for an independent Audi mechanic. Any recommendations?
I'll also be looking for an architect with a modernist/minimalist orientation. I'd apprecitate references there, too.

can't say on the mechanic
but have you considered some of the prefab builders? they actually are quite nice, I've been thinking about using cleverhomes for my house when I get around to building.
btw: madison is full of weirdos. I should know, I have a number of friends there.
