Help-"bath" mat residue stuck to trunk floor material

Help-"bath" mat residue stuck to trunk floor material
and when I pulled it up, it left a layer of rubber lining which had turned into a glue-like substance, and had become fused to the trunk floor material. Someone suggested using mineral spirits to try to dissolve the residue. Any other ideas as to how to clean this off?
