Default Thoughts on this brake upgrade....anyone running it?

What's the difference between these "compact" 4 piston calipers & say a Stoptech caliper?

RPI EQUIPPED Passat B5, Audi A4&A6 - Audi 5000TQ

13x1.25" diameter two-piece (lightweight) rotor.

Vented, slotted and cross drilled rotors for maximum fade resistance.

Each rotor is also silver CAD plated for long lasting good looks, with a billet CNC chrome plated centre hat.

Compact billet aluminum Wilwood 4-piston caliper provides superior clamping force while allowing unsurpassed wheel clearance.(17" min. diameter)

Billet CNC aluminum chrome plated brackets and Goodridge stainless lines complete this pre-assembled package which provides not only killer stopping power but a 25 lb reduction in unsprung weight.

Each kit utilizes the latest Wilwood 'fast-road' compound pad. These pads provide excellent bite on the street and will get you through track days as well.

Assembled with grade 12.9 hardware

Default Having run a StopTech kit for 3-4 years, my advice is...

Which ever kit you decide on, make sure that there is very readily available: 1)wide selection of pads 2)replacement rotors 3)replacement hats

You'll definitely need replacement pads and potentially both road and track pads. Its also likely that you'll need replacement rotors, particularly if you plan on tracking the car. Its also possible that you'll need new hats and hardware at some point. If this stuff isn't readily available, your car will sit while you wait for parts - not fun. If the kit is low production and/or changes over the next couple of years, parts availability could be tough.

Sometimes the latest/greatest isn't so great. tried and true has a lot of benefit

Good luck

Mike

I think that Wilwood calipers do not use piston boots. If so, plan on very frequent caliper overhaul

Default "Vented, slotted and cross drilled rotors for maximum fade resistance."

Vented I can understand. But how does slotting and drilling resist fading?

Be careful with Wildwood; they are primarily a racing caliper company and many of their calipers do not have the weather boot on the piston. This means that they need frequent rebuilding. Again, not true of all Wildwoods, but you have to be careful with racing application stuff.

Default Blocked at work. :-(

I'd definitely verify with them before you pull the trigger.

See if you can get flat or slotted rotors too.

Default For the price, I think the ECS Stage 3 kit is a much better option...

...rotor rings available separately (if needed later) and pads and caliper components can be obtained easily from Porsche.
