Default Service tranny or don't service tranny?!?!

I want to drain my tranny with the tranny kit that blauparts sells. However, I've read many different posts where some people say that it shouldn't be done.
Others say it's the best thing in the world.

What say you knowledgable Audi aficionados?

Should I change it or not? I have a 98 2.8L automatic with tiptronic and bordering on 100k miles.

Do it. Filter too. Did mine when the car started shifting funny at 150k. No issues to date.

Default Based on what I've seen so far, I'm inclined to think that a filter change plus draining

as much fluid as you can is ok. Just don't flush if higher mileage as small particles may be stuck in even smaller orofices. make sure you know an indy/dealer that can refill properly as well. Am I right on this guys?

Default lots of posts - search archives - my own opinion based on my >

experience ..... I would just drain and replace filter and gasket .... in my case I wish I would have done this as soon as I got the car .... because the replacement pan gasket is rubber .vs. paper .... much better seal!! Had I done this I would have had much less chance of hot coolant getting into the transmission when I blew that little coolant hose between the two water pumps ... needless to say the coolant blew back seeped into the pan thru the dried out paper gasket, got sucked up into the trans pump flashed to steam in the process and blew the torque converter seal and bushing right out of the trans pump .... i had to pull the trans have it rebuilt and reinstall ... so $150 in maint could have saved me $6K that Audi wanted to fix the mess or the $2k it cost me to fix it ... either way ... I think I would have been much better off if I would have done a bunch of preventive maint when I bought the car ... other things u should do ... change the Timing Belt and Plugs ..... if the timing belt goes u will damage the engine .... if the plugs go u could end up with a no start condition and encurr extensive diagnostic costs (unless as in my case u do all the diagnostic work yourself.) Good Luck
