Update... Cost question on engine repair from blown TB...
Does anyone have a rough idea what it will cost to fix my engine? It's an AHA, and the TB blew last week. I posted some question and got some great answers. My current question is what exactly the costs are that are associated with the repair? I am expecting to replace 20-30 valves and guides, 4-6 pistons, and to have any necessary machine work done.I am hoping this is a worst-case scenario.Does anyone have a cost breakdown? I am especially interested in the machine shop costs. Would it be better to port and polish, or just have the messed-up holes ground correctly?? Last time I checked, Audi wants around $30 per valve. A full set of aftermarket
pistons will probably be around $800. But before you work yourself into a frenzy, pull the heads. Who knows..It might not be that bad.

There probably isn't any need to replace any pistons. I've never seen one that bad.
My guess is 12 exhaust valves. Leave the guides and pistons alone. I've done several of these and never replaced a guide or a piston.
Buy the aftermarket valves. They aren't sodium filled like the OEM ones, but they will be fine for an unboosted engine.
