I've switched over from an APR tune to a GIAC tune.
1. Turbo lag? What turbo lag? - Turbo lag is practically gone with the GIAC. I noticed a slight lag with the APR tune.
2. High-end turbo kick comes in sooner at 65mph (GIAC) compared to 75mph (APR). I always thought his was odd. It's hard to explain but it's a mild turbo kick under gradual throttle. Do any of you experience this chip or no chip?
3. Butt dyno thinks APR is a bit "torquier" than the GIAC.
4. GIAC is smoother across the power spectrum as compared to the APR. I was surprised because many have said the opposite. I think gimp2.7 liked the GIAC for this reason as well.
Throttle response is identical. Although I liked APR's "torquier" feel in the low end, I have to give the edge to GIAC because of the better turbo response and smoothness. Both are great programs and this by no means is a bash to APR and the end-users.
Re-programming took about 1.3 hours. The ECU was being finicky and had to be removed to be separated from other systems to be re-flashed with updated 2.7t programming. Once that was done, the stuff left from APR had to be completely removed before the GIAC programming was installed. As a side note, the APR program creates a log of 35 accesses to the ECU.
1.) LOTSA turbo lag felt
2.) the kick is pretty harsh
