Default Coming back to Audi

I am taking a new job that will require me to have an all-wheel drive vehicle for mild snow driving. My last Audi was in college ('90 100Q). With gas @ $4, I don't want to go the SUV route. I have found a 1 owner '01 A6 2.8Q at a local dealer, and they want $8900 for it. It has had a T belt/water pump, and has new rubber. It comes with a full service record. Anything I should be on the lookout for? I would probably keep it through 200K. Any major issues with the 2.8 engine that would should send me looking for a lower mileage A6? Any guidance/suggestions welcome

Default Lower/Higher wont make a difference in the issues. You will encounter them, just maybe later.

Control arms, coolant temp sender, cruise control module, crankcase breathers, oil seals. Just a few off the top of my head. Nothing major, but can get discouraging after a while. Enjoy.

The 2.8 is usually a tank. As long as you keep up with maintenance, it will last forever.

IMHO, that is a little TOO pricey...try and pick up a 3.0q for that price

Default AWith almost any audi the question is " maint and treatment?"

The 2.8 is pretty solid. You noted that the single largest maint items is taken care of ( t-belt). Other issues can be tranny ( but rare with a relatively gutless 2.8); & control arms.

Just make sure it has really been well maintained, not just waxed up by a dealer. I generally wont buy from dealers for that reason. I'll look for an honest and **** seller, pocket the difference, have the oppy to speak to the horse himself, and self-insure.

That said, if its really a clean, well maintained car, its always worth paying up - it saves big down the road.

Agreed. I have a 2.8q & a 3.0q...I like the 3.0q better...probably because it is newer...
