Do I need new trunk lid struts?

Default Do I need new trunk lid struts?
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/149184/100_2825.jpg"></center><p>I opened up my trunk today to put some groceries and I noticed that my right trunk lid strut is all greasy. Nasty. I'm just wondering if I need new strut or is it just dirty? Also, can you replace just 1?

Default Oh. Good. I'm giving it to a friend Audi mechanic
to fix all the little issues that I wrote about before. She will be like new soon. (Well, I hope).

If they're still working, why replace? Just clean it off and move on.

Does it hold the trunk open? If yes, why change it? Just clean it.

What should I clean it with? Clean Rag with WD-40?

Default If that works it works. WD40 won't damage it.
I've even used carb cleaner or goo-gone or various nonpolar solvents up to and including acetone, toluene, and some probably illegal these days USAF solvents...not on painted surfaces!!

I usually try tar remover or kerosene first....it seems to be the least damaging other than plain soap and water.

Actually trunk will stay open w/o struts-heavy as hell-dont drop on your head!
