Beautiful start to my Sunday morning...started a fire in the kitchen...<more>

Just got in from plowing the driveway. Only got about four inches so it did not take long. Some coffee was left in the pot that had cooled so being the cheap bastage I am I did not want to waste it so I put the coffee pot on the burner on low to heat it up. Go over to the stereo cabinet to put on some relaxing Sunday morning reading the paper (went to church yesterday!!)music. Looking through some CD's when all of a sudden I happen to catch this flickering light out of the corner of my eye. I look to the right back towards the kitchen and see flames and smoke. In case you are wondering that is not a good thing. Ran into the kitchen and grab a couple of pot holders and luckily get the whole mess over in to the stainless sink. Open two windows over the sink and fire up the exhaust fan. T is upstairs showering so I am in damage control mode. If I can get it cleaned up before she comes down I figured it is better. End up tossing the whole mess out the window into the snow as the melting plastic of the coffee pot is still burning and putting out some horrific smoke. FARK!!!! And then I hear the voice from above..."honey..I just looked at the alarm panel in the bedroom and it reads that some windows are open...and what it that horrible smell?" BUSTED!!!!! Guess I'm going out to get us a new coffee pot today.

Good Job Bill! i lit a plastic measuring cup on fire

last week in the microwave...

i figured eh, plastic no biggie...
it started melting/reacting with the microwave and sparks were flying! i was simply using it to melt butter so i could pour/sprinkle it over some fresh popcorn, and i had used this 1/2 cup measuring set many many times before, this time around, it caught fire and i had to run and toss it in the sink and fire at it with the faucet handheld shower nozzle for a bit..yeah burning plastic stinks too!
