Default StopTech question S6ers any 355 user experience or just 332mm??

I have had the wrong rotors sent twice.Got me thinking that perhaps I should have the 355mm variety, as the road Ark will need them when the new PES supercharger is installed.

Note how much rotor area the aluminum hat takes? Looks like less swept area than the oem. I know the 4 piston calipers will give more clamping force, better modulation, and cooling with directional cooling and thicker rotor, but swept area is an important element. This is why I am now considering 355mm rotor, but not sure if the oem 17" rims will fit, alhthough summer rims are 18x8" RS4 clones.

Don't forget to notice that BIG H-sport front bar!

Default Swept area is important, but that BBK also has a lot less weight and more efficient calipers.

I was not aware that the 355 kits were available for 4.2's/S6's. Every time I asked various companies about them, they told me that they were not available for V8 C5's.

Default Absolutely no question, unsprung weight advantage!

Absolutely! and then we put larger, heavier rims/tires on! I am checking into the 355 option so not sure they are available, but should be if I can get the right parts. And they have tested to make sure brake bias is not compromised.

Equally important is the mechanical advantage of clamping further out from the center of rotation.

Default 321mm is normal for HP2 calipers but I am not sure which calipers you normally have with the 332mm..

whichever you end up with, they look good and the increase in diameter will outweigh the slighly smaller swept area, if indeed, there is a smaller fristion area as the pads may cover a 'longer' area.

Default StopTech uses ST40 4 piston caliper with these rotors- 6 piston is overkill for mortal applications

and as pointed out, swept area is greatest on outer radius, so lost inner area is not very significant. Others have pointed out HP2's are good, which I agree, they offer enough area and pad selection to be adequate. I had to replace pads and rotors anyway, so these costs effectively reduced the cost of the Stoptech upgrade.

Default Ahh, good response, and nice mods on your S6

Can you expand about the MTM chip you have? Anything you find that works with the Tip?
I am a little concerned about the trans handling all the power the engine will produce with the supercharger, we will see??
What is your impression of the PSS9's on your car?

Since I have several Audis, some with exhaust mods, I chose not to change the road ark, to keep it stealth quiet. The SC may benefit from less back-pressure, I am sure, so we will see what is the next step after that installation this March.

Stoptech apparently sent the wrong calipers, so that may be the problem. I was not aware that they have different caliper thickness. They do not have a bracket that works with the 355 rotors for our cars.

Nice looking car.

Default response....

i like the pss9's.
i bought the car with everything on it. i drove a few before i bought this one and with the pss9's the car handles so well. it is like a big go-kart. i think the car is a little too low as it sits now and i tried to raise it and it is a pain. ive heard mized reviews about the mtm chip (whether or not it does anything), but i love the exhaust. i know the chip does remove the speed limiter. the stoptechs are nice, but as you know they are two pieces. i had to replace the rotors and i couldnt get the bolts loose (between the rotors and the hats). i tried heat and everything, i ended up cutting them off and pounding them through. HUGE pain in the a$$.
i would love the throw a supercharger on this car. i talked to pes before about it and they said that the trans will be ok.

Default Nice setup, seems a fair number of the S6's have aftermarket stuff

Thanks for your summary. So the bolts you refer to were the small bridge bolts? Or were you trying to put new rotors on the hats?
Anti-seize works wonders.

I have looked all over for Tip transmission software, as it is made for some of the cars, but not ours.

PES seem to be a competent shop. I like the concept of a G4 supercharger, low boost 9 psi,
and no messing with turbos where they don't belong! IF you have seen an RS6 engine out of the car when replacing those little turbos you wiil be amazed how poorly the KO4's positioning is, almost a 90 degree angle from the header!

2.7 TT turbo maintenance is a pain, but the V8 just does not have room. I would think Audi will learn from their supercharged S4 and would easily consider that as an upgrade. It certainly would be a natural for the R8 rather than a big V10.

We will see how the trans adjusts to the power increase. I am fortunate, I live near 170 miles from PES and know a bunch of Audi folks in that area, so over the edge I go!

I really like the new Audis' and have been to their headquarters in Herndon, VA. The new S4 will be better than the press writes as the dynamic suspension and design improvements really has Audi setting the new standard for cars. And interiors are so much nicer than Merc or BMW.

Stay tuned for project updates in March!
