any brand recommendations for HID conversion kits?

Have 01 A6 , want to convert to HID. Will the 'bulb out' light come on? Will I still have highbeam capability?

Shouldn't...yes, depending on the kit.

You can always put in a load resistor pack to make the system think it's sucking juice, but generally the bulb-out indicator indicates a current imbalance between paired resistors (halogen bulbs in your case). As long as the two ballasts have reasonably matched impedances the bulb should stay out.

ygm. I've got the stock ballasts if you want to go OEM.

I can even pull out the entire headlight wiring harnesses, too.

I'd hold out for an OEM off of ebay or a salvage yard. After market usually ='s afterthought

and adaptions.
